Have you ever heard of the most famous of all the colored diamonds called the "Hope Diamond"? The gorgeous blue diamond is a natural fancy colored diamond created in nature.
Diamonds occur in nature in a variety of transparent shades. One rarely sees them because certain colors like pink diamonds, canary diamonds, blue diamonds, also called natural fancy colored diamonds.
Diamonds with a noticeable color hue to them are called colored diamonds. Colored diamonds contain impurities that cause the coloration. Technically speaking the diamond impurities replace a carbon atom causing the coloration of the colored diamonds. A common noticeable impurity is nitrogen causing the colored diamonds to turn yellowish.
Colored diamonds can occur in a variety of colors and are also called natural fancy colored diamonds or loose fancy colored diamonds. The colored diamonds come in these color variances, white, steel, blue, yellow, orange, red, green, pink or brown.
Diamonds may also be irradiated treated to cause color change. These diamonds may be identified by the hue of light green they exude.
